Meta-morph ME!

The Idea:

Create a documentary film about my journey from today to becoming the next version of me.  My next life situation will be that of a “guru” for lack of a better term…I like “coach” better.  I will do speeches, seminars/workshops, videos, films, mp3s, CDs, books…the whole lot.

Today I have a regular job as a DOD contractor.  The film will document the process of my Metamorphosis  from this life to the life of a guru.

Definite Plans:

  • A contest!  An online campaign to allow aspiring documentary film makers submit videos on youtube.  The winner of this contest will win some of my money (not sure how much they need).  We will use my money to start producing the film.
  • Connect to other “gurus”.  The primary story of the film will be to document my meetings and interactions and training with other “gurus”…like Dr. Wayne Dyer, Steve  and Erin Pavlina, Deepak Chopra.  The film will create enough buzz on the internet to grant me access and agreements with all the best guru’s to help me become my best guru and to share my message of universal compassion and agape love.
  • Stories, videos, and pictures from my life.  The ”back” story of the film will be other people talking about me (yikes!).  So if you know me…send me your videos of you talking about me, or write a story, or send me some pictures.  This will be mostly used to promote the film on a new web page and on youtube…the best of these submissions will either be used raw in the film or be filmed again for backstory material in the film (or maybe lots of DVD extras!)

Mastermind Group:

I need lots of help, but a small number of you will become my mastermind group…there may be many mastermind groups.  If you are interested in helping me produce this dream into reality, please let me know.

For those of you who have not noticed, I am using the language of  ”Think and grow Rich” so a big THANK YOU goes out to Mike Schumacher for introducing me to this great book.

Meta-morph ME!!!  GO!

Open and Shut….Well, Open is better

Open and Shut… Well, Open is Better

Recently, I was talking with a friend and I mentioned that I think that they are rather closed minded about certain things. This person vehemently denied it, and even said they I had offended them by the accusation. Simply stating that they didn’t like something is not the same thing as being closed minded about something, and offering other excuses and denials. I was getting too tired to listen to all of this, so I decided to end that conversation before it became a full argument and went to bed.

I do recognize that something not being to one’s taste does not automatically equate to being closed-minded about that thing, however, it doesn’t make you exempt from that either to simply say you don’t like it. So, how do you know if you are closed up in the mind about something? I’ll try to answer that for myself as I write this, and maybe it’ll even make sense when I’m finished.

“Intolerant of the beliefs and opinions of others; stubbornly unreceptive to new ideas.” (1) In regard to my friend, this does seem rather harsh, considering the context in which we were speaking, but it’s still accurate for the most part. I think if we take the formal language out and simply say “Not ready to receive new ideas,” I think it’s still within that definition, yet not quite as harsh.

The funny thing about a closed-mind is that it is often not only closed to new thoughts, it is often closed to itself as well. It is closed to new thoughts and anything that threatens the status quo. So trying to change a closed-mind is more than simply telling a person they should try something new, because ‘obviously,’ they won’t even understand the reasoning for your request. And heaven forbid you should mention they’re not even willing to try, because they’ll get offended, more than likely.

Now, I understand how some people can say they don’t like Football, for example, and trying to change a mind on that activity is a very chancy proposition. You can’t say “Oh, but the strategy, the drama, the spirit will move you!” For not every game is exciting, after all. It might be a boring defense oriented game that ends 7-10. Right, even that will turn off some football non-fans. Some people just don’t get sports, and some people do, no big deal. But if you are patient, understanding, or at least polite, a passive acceptance is possible for most people, for as Aristotle said “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”

The argument that “it’s just not to my taste” is a tough one, because let’s be honest, some things people don’t enjoy, for whatever reason. I don’t like Period Epics for the most part, for example. However, I’ll still watch them if recommended to me by someone I trust that knows me and what I like. Because I respect their opinion, and I’m not unwilling to give things a chance. I think that if I were to say, “No, I only like Science Fiction and Fantasy movies, so don’t bother me with anything else.” I’d miss out on a lot. Plus, there’d be some confusion. Look at Lord of the Rings. Great, sweeping period epics, although of a Fantasy era that doesn’t, or hasn’t, existed in real life, it still qualifies. Do I go because it’s fantasy, or do I stay away because it’s a Period Epic?

And heck, look at cross-genre stuff. “Outland” is a science fiction remake of “High Noon,” and if you want my opinion, “High Noon” was a superior version of that story. All those spaghetti westerns of the 60′s seem to be remakes of Japanese epics by Kurosawa and the like. (2) “Firefly” was a western masquerading as a space opera. “Alien” was a classic horror film dressed up in a spaceship. “Shaun of the Dead” was a wonderful Zombie movie done as a comedy. Heck, horror and comedy are a wonderful pairing in many successful movies, “Tremors,” “From Dusk ’til Dawn,” and “Army of Darkness” just to name a few of my favorites. Teen angst coming-of-age drama meets werewolf fantasy in “Ginger Snaps.” If I were to say I don’t like Horror no matter what, I’d miss out on some really enjoyable experiences.

Movies and shows as entertainment are not like sports. There are flavors, levels of depth, and combinations that can’t be broken down into a rulebook and played on a field. So you’d think you could convince a person to try something outside of their primary area of interest by pointing out how there’s something they do like as part of greater piece. But no, a person with a closed mind seems to just see the overall genre, and says, “Nope, don’t like that genre, never will, don’t bother me,” yet not acknowledge a closed mind.

It’s a breakdown of terminology, I think. Because in many cases, people I have known that have limited views, shall we say, are also very open in many other ways. Vote for gay rights, love dogs and cats, let their kids have cell phones early on, bed times are negotiable, and all that. They’re cool people, easy to get along with until you reach that one place where they are intractable. “I’m not closed-minded; I like skydiving, for goodness’ sakes!” The two aren’t related. “You might have several open doors in the mind, but just one closed door still prevents passage in that direction.” – Me.

The enemy of the open mind is the unreasoning fear, the unthinking devotion to an idea or theme. “When even the brightest mind in our world has been trained up from childhood in a superstition of any kind, it will never be possible for that mind, in its maturity, to examine sincerely, dispassionately, and conscientiously any evidence or any circumstance which shall seem to cast a doubt upon the validity of that superstition. I doubt if I could do it myself.” – Mark Twain. Probably the least funny, but no less true and insightful quote I ever read from Mr. Twain. Reason is the best way to learn to go beyond what you are comfortable with, to learn and grow into areas you wouldn’t have previously ventured. And education is the path toward reason. Experience leads to education, and therein lies the rub. If you are so closed-minded to refuse to try a new experience, you’ll never get educated enough to gain the reasoning to open the mind up.

So, sometimes you have to trust to other people to know you, and to educate you by proxy. That’s how I learned to like Les Misérables. Someone I respected knew I liked musicals and thought I should go see it, and so started a rather distressing obsession for a while. (I even read the Victor Hugo novel. Talk about a sweeping period epic!) If I’d told my friend back then that “There’s no way I’d like it, it’s in a genre I know I don’t like, so don’t bother,” I know I’d have offended him. But instead, I learned something rather new, and it expanded my world just a little bit more. And that helped me enjoy still more things, and helped me to learn to open my mind still more. “The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.” –Terry Pratchett. But it’s a good thing to let people “put things in it.” You learn to love more about the world, your friends, and yourself than you ever would otherwise.

When your mind starts to open up after a long period of strongly held ideas, you might have other issues, as Alexander Graham Bell said, “When one door closes, another opens. But we often look so regretfully upon the closed door that we don’t see the one which has opened for us.” When that happens, you might suffer under the impression that you did what you friend liked, learned something new, so you’re open to new things, when you really aren’t. You’re mourning things, and fall back into the pattern of ignoring what you just tried, and not exploring it further, so never forget that if you do learn something new, keep moving forward, challenge yourself, learn new things, and enjoy life more than you ever have before.

Being Peace by Deepak Chopra

I love Deepak Chopra. I have read one of his books (How to know God) and watched several of his videos. Also, I listen to his wellness radio show every Saturday that I am home.

His newsletter is called Namaste, and it being summer time, I am behind on my reading…but I just checked out the June issue…and he asked me to pass on peace. He wanted me to email all my friends, but who wants more email you didn’t ask for…even if its from a friend?

Peace is a means to peace. If you want peace, you need to find peace within your mind, body and soul. In order to give peace (or use or create peace), you must HAVE peace or better yet…BE PEACE. Then you can pass it on.

TEDTalks: My Stroke of Insight

This video is about a brain doctor who had a stroke.  When she had the stroke, her left brain stopped working and she slowly lost her connection with her “body identity”…and was still alive.  She felt as big as the universe and found it hard to believe that her consciousness could fit into a little body.

I hope you can check out the video—if these link doesn’t work, search for “TEDtalks stroke” on YouTube.

Free Hugs!

This is a fun video I got from Deepak Chopra’s newsletter Namaste.  If you can’t watch, or it does work, just search YouTube for free hugs.

One dude walks around with a sign that says “FREE HUGS”…eventually people start hugging.

If you know me, I hug quite a bit, so I like hugs.

Enjoy!

Global Consciousness Project Index: It is RED…what is coming?

This index tracks “the global consciousness” of events on earth…it went bright red for a few hours before MAJOR events like 9/11.

http://noosphere.princeton.edu/gcindex.html

As of the date/time of this post…the dot is RED…so what do you think is about to happen? I have had a feeling that something was coming since the 4th of July trip…no clue what it is though. Perhaps something in the Pacific Northwest?

If anyone has any idea what is coming…post your guesses as comments…might be fun!

Global Consciousness Project: “You Can Know the Future”

As you know (maybe), I am working on a new web page at:

www.shift-your-consciousness.com

I was researching the “Global Consciousness Project” and found this link:

http://www.mondovista.com/future/index.html

This is a very cool project and this page is a lot of fun in a nut shell, it says we are all at least 1/2 second – to five seconds ahead of reality in our perceptions of events in the external world.

They also talk about our ability to affect the outcomes of Random Number generators.

The project set up these random number generators all over the world and use the internet to monitor spikes in activity…they found some very cool results:

Hugh spike four hours BEFORE 9/11 attacks!

Hugh spike before Princess Di’s funeral

Hugh spike before the Tsunami in Indonesia

Very interesting project…check it out!

Reality Examined: Separation

Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.”

– A Course in Miracles (Text)

I feel happy. When I get tired or upset in anyway, first I take care of my physical needs: Rest, comfort, food, drink etc. Then I remember “the truth” as I believe it.

When I tell myself “The truth is still true”, my negative thoughts are laughed and chuckled away, like when a child has a bad dream and cries until a parent reminds the child “it’s ok, it was only a dream”.

Sometimes, I forget that my life on earth is really just a dream compared to what I consider…reality.

These ideas and beliefs are not easy to express and articulate plainly…that’s why mystics and master teachers always talk in circles and contradict themselves. The truth is really unexpressable with words…so here I go with yet another attempt to express the “unexpressable”.

I decided to break down the idea of “the truth” into smaller pieces that might fit in categories and or sub-headings. This might take a while to make any kind of sense, but heh I’m willing to give it a shot.

By the way, I don’t claim to know the truth…this is just what I call the truth, while at the same time, I know its not really true…it’s kind of like my best guess at what truth might be, or what I choose to believe is true for now.

Fundamental to my version of “the truth” is the idea of “the separation”.

This is not a new idea. Teachers, yogis, mystics and masters have been talking about “the separation” since those kind of guys have been walking and talking.

The idea goes something like this:

1. At some point “humans” began to believe that they were separate from god, the universe, the cosmos. Before the separation, “beings” existed and consciously were aware that they were all unified in one consciousness.

2. The separation is not real. It is a belief held so profoundly by “humans” that this single idea creates this dream that we are separate from the “universe”. If it were possible to be separate from the universe, it would be possible to “not exist”…which I just don’t believe.

3. Since humans “believe” they are separate from the universe or an island of consciousness with private thoughts…they also learn to believe in the idea of “others”. By the way, babies live on earth for about 1.5 years or so in complete unity consciousness. In other words, before certain experiences in our lives, we KNEW the truth, and could not perceive ourselves as separate from our environment or the “others” in it.

4. So, at some point humans learn that 1) this is me, I AM a body; 2) That person out there is a different body and is NOT me; 3) these things that I sense are things and they are also NOT me.

If you kept reading this far THANKS! I know this all sounds pretty dumb, but it is fundamental to figuring out how to be happy and at peace, regardless of your environmental situation on earth.

Think about the implications of the fundamental “error” in our belief that we are separate islands of consciousness.

1. We identify ourselves as a body. When the body dies…we cease to exist. Well, sure the body ceases, but it wasn’t really there to begin with! Your consciousness does not need a body to exist. If you want a new body, I’m pretty sure you can get a new one…you made the first one, why do we think we can’t just make another one?

2. If I am a body, I have needs. Physical needs, desires, will. If you have needs and you fear dying, then you have to defend what you have. At the personal level, this leads to people lashing out and attacking others that might threaten to harm you or take your stuff. At the national level, this creates a fear-based society, that always endeavors to domainate and control weak individuals and countries to “defend” and “protect” our way of life.

Once I realized that I am a sprit (or consciousness) having a human experience and NOT a human having spiritual experiences, I let go of a lot of fears and learned that the opposite of fear is LOVE.

If the idea of the separation is not true, then my entire “earthly” experience is all me. There is no “out there” out there. There are no “others”, they are just projections of the unity consciousness trying to teach me some lessons. Primary to the teaching is that the separation is a fundamental “error” and if we correct this error, we might be able to move forward with less fear and more love.

So, the next time you feel anger at that “other” person…give yourself a break…that’s you out there and there is no spoon NEO!

Book Preview: Scott Sigler creates his Reality

Scott Sigler is a writer. He scored a 4 book deal with crown publishing. What makes Scott worthy of mention is that he created his own audience after being rejected by so called big publishing for about 15 years.

Infected Hardcov

Scott’s Novel “Infected” will release 1 Apr 2008.

How did he do that? He will tell you the story (check out this you tube link). And I will try to sum it up:

1) He took action. He wrote many books (I’m not sure how many, but a lot). None sold.

2) He discovered “podcasting” in 2005. He used podcasting to give away audio versions of his books on the internet.

3) He built up an audience of about 30,000 dedicated fans.

4) He did a small print version of one of his books (“Ancestor”) and this book broke all kinds of records on Amazon and would have been #1 on Amazon if it had not been for a little book you might have heard of called “Harry Potter”.

5) Big publishing took notice and Scott now gets paid to take over the world. (inside joke…yes I am a junkie.)

6) Oh, by the way, he continued to have a life and work his day job to pay his bills while doing all of the above.

I will add that Scott used the the “Law of Attraction”. We all use the Law of Attraction, however Scott used it in a way that helped him get what he wants.

I think many people watch movies like “The Secret” and then go and sit crossed-legged in their bedroom and think about all the things they want, which is great! Then they turn on the TV and wait for things to show up, which won’t work. This would work, but you actually have to take action to receive all the things that you think about, and watching TV doesn’t really count for action. What Scott did, is what works.

I have never met Scott personally, but everyone I know that has met him, always uses the same word to describe Scott: “intense”. Scott is an intense individual. Since I have never met Scott, I will believe, for now, that Scott is an “intense” person. However, I am not exactly sure what that means. I bet when I do meet Scott, I will find him to be a person that has figured out what he wants and is focusing his energy on getting it. This would create the outward appearance of “intensity” because I believe that most people are walking around the world not knowing what they want, and therefore lack focused internal drive.

Knowing what you want is hugely important from my point of view. Others call this “goal setting” which is fine, but I prefer to call it getting what I want. People want to put dates on goals, which is necessary in the world of business, but is not the same as “knowing” what you want. I would rather get an idea of what I want and then work towards getting it, but at the same time not really care about the outcome.

Does that sound crazy? I think it might. Allow me to try to explain. Wait, no time to Xplain…lemme sum up! :-)

The Law of Attraction for me works like this:

1) Ask: Think about what you want. Imagine it, think about how cool it will be. Make it seem as though you already have it and you feel great.

2) Give: Universe does this. Your role in this is step one.

3) Receive:?? Watch for signs, opportunities, ideas, dreams, inspiration, little coincidences.

4) Act: Do something positive toward moving your life toward one of those opportunities. Write a blog post, take a college class, work on a chapter of your book, promote your online business—DO SOMETHING. If you can’t think of anything to do…then go for a walk. MOVE your body.

5) Let go: Accept outcomes without judgment. Don’t get upset if things are not the way you want them to be. Recenter yourself, get happy, and start back at step 1.

If you are a fan of the horror genre, you may want check out Scott’s web page and his blog posts (he is VERY FUNNY!)
